WELCOMING NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR,

SUMAIYA AHMED SHEIKH

Date: February 27, 2018

The Michigan Muslim Community Council is pleased to introduce Sumaiya Ahmed Sheikh as its new Executive Director. Sumaiya comes from a long history of community service, activism, and education. She was recently the National Communications Director of Emgage. She also serves on the board of the Muslim-Jewish Solidarity Council and is one of the organizers of the Women's March. She has been a long-standing community organizer and activist, and was born and raised right here in Michigan where she lives with her husband.

She will lead the MMCC team which includes, Imam Mika'il Saadiq who is the Outreach Director and Nausheen Razvi who serves as the Director of Operations.

MMCC has accomplished much over the past year, including mobilizing the community and helping collect over 110,000 pounds of food for the local hungry in Ramadan Fight Against Hunger, organizing the annual Capitol Day in Lansing, helping coordinate the Oudhiya/Qurbani (sacrificed) meat distribution of over 25 tons to those at need during the holiday of Eid, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers for numerous events across Metro Detroit and coordinating the Days of Ihsan during the month of December to help our neighbors during the holiday season.

But this is only the beginning. While we are proud of our past ventures we look forward to our future as we will not only continue these projects, but begin new ones. With the hard work of our extremely talented team, and our countless volunteers, we plan on taking the Michigan Muslim Community Council to new heights.

However, in order to succeed we will need the continued support of the most important member of our team, the community. We need each and every member of our community to get involved, and help us build our future. With the support of our beloved community the sky is the limit.

We are excited for the journey that lies ahead, and look forward to building a strong and unified Muslim American community. Please save the date for our next annual event, Michigan Muslim Capitol Day in Lansing on May 8th, Inshallah.

Sincerely,

Dr. Muzammil Ahmed & The MMCC Board
