My name is Husain Haidri, and I am the Civic Engagement Ambassador for the Michigan Muslim Community Council. While I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, my real passion is in the study and practice of civil rights law and public service. I draw inspiration from a quote of President Barack Obama:
“The arc of the universe may bend toward justice, but it doesn’t bend on its own."
What I need from you:
Over the next few weeks, my goal is to highlight races in key districts for Muslims around the state of Michigan, introduce organizations working with the Michigan Muslim Community Council to improve civic engagement, and sharing a few surprises along the way. Additionally, I’ll share upcoming events we’re organizing so you can stay civically engaged.
One of the ways I want to make this a more fruitful experience both for the audience and myself is to have a conversation rather than monologue. At the end of every newsletter, I will present a subject and ask for your opinion. In a response as long or short as you’d like, address the subject in an email to me. I will select one and publish it in the following newsletter.
Also, I'll continue to share information on events we are organizing, so be sure to bring your friends and family, and let me know if you'd like to volunteer! No matter what, we must stay engaged and remember our place in this society. In the words of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965):
"In a democracy, the highest office is the office of citizen."
