Imam Mika'il Stewart Saadiq
Mika’il Stewart Saadiq born and raised in Detroit, is an imam and community organizer. Over the past year, he has acted as Detroit’s only Muslim Police Chaplain and Detroit City Council Liaison. He is also an educator of 17 years. He has worked closely with MMCC since its inception playing a key role in Muslim Capitol Day and rapid response. Mika’il has become known for his passionate, yet contemplative, writing and speaking style.
Merve Cengiz-Basha born in Turkey and raised in Albania comes from a culturally diverse background. She has received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching and her Master’s in Business Administration. Throughout her studies in Turkey and Michigan, Merve has always been actively involved with the Balkan communities and has a great passion to be a part of community service and engagement regardless of the race, religion, or background. She is currently the Administrative Associate of the Michigan Muslim Community Council. Her main tasks are to coordinate grants and obtain fundings for various MMCC projects and programs.
Civic Engagement Ambassador
Husain Haidri is the Civic Engagement Ambassador at MMCC. While he is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, his real passion is in the study and practice of civil rights law and public service. He currently maintains a civic engagement newsletter and draws inspiration from a quote of President Barack Obama: “The arc of the universe may bend toward justice, but it doesn’t bend on its own.”
Digital Marketing Coordinator
Arslan Raheem is the communications coordinator for MMCC. He is currently enrolled at Wayne State University. He also does communications with the MIST-Detroit and volunteers for other local non profits.

Mariam Sharaf is a graduate having received her Bachelors of Science in Nutritional Science. She is currently pursuing her second Bachelors in Finance from University of Michigan-Dearborn. She has been actively working with MMCC for the past two years helping on various projects including Ramadan Fight Against Hunger, Day of Ihsan, and beautifying Nolan Elementary. She is excited to continue to work with MMCC and see what else she can do to give back to the community.
